ARA THE BEAUTIFUL
The mono performance “Ara the Beautiful” of Armenian well known director and actor Aram Hovhannisyan is based on Nairi Zaryan s sensory emotional and passionately patriotic theatrical tragedy of the same name written in 1944 and Sergey Parajanov’s mystical pictorial sketch libretto for the film “Ara the Beautiful” written in 1972, all inspired by one of the lyrical epical episodes of ancient Armenian history narrated by chronologist historian Movses Khorenatsi in the V century.
The historical legend “Ara the Beautiful and Semiramis“ is built upon the confrontation of sensory love and moral obligation and it could be featured as one of the most beautiful and moving tragic stories on love and duty, which is not a mere tragic love story, but a highly noble patriotic poem. Hardly anything else could be more characteristic to the classical tragedy…
