Kholstomer. The History Of A Horse

Following a sold-out run last year, the production comes back to New York for a limited engagement.

April 16–19

A groundbreaking and visually stunning performance of Leo Tolstoy’s timeless tale, Kholstomer (The Strider).

Directed by Nabi Abdurakhmanov, known for his innovative work across Europe, the U.S., Israel and beyond, the production brings world literature to life with dynamic theater and dance.

In a world torn between division and the longing for unity, Kholstomer speaks to our shared human experience. Through the story of an outcast horse, it explores themes of identity, misunderstanding, and resilience. A young, energetic cast delivers a powerful blend of physical theater, dance, and emotive storytelling, making this performance both timely and unforgettable.

SYNOPSIS:

At dawn, young horses explore an endless field, brimming with energy. Among them are two old horses: a revered mare and a frail, outcast skewbald gelding. The young ones turn against him—until they learn he is the legendary Kholstomer, famed for his speed and extraordinary life. Eager to unlock his secrets, they relive his journey of love, betrayal, friendship, and the race for honor.
